Presently, the company has a field force of 40 medical representatives, one National Sales manager, one Government and Corporate Accounts Officer, one product manager and 5 district sales managers. Total number of full time employees is 60.
To increase the reach of its distribution network, ALPHAMED has formed an alliance with top distributors in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. They are collectively known as HEALTH SOURCE ALLIANCE and has plans to incorporate in the near future
ALPHAMED also successfully embarked on including its products in the formularies of the big private and government hospitals in Manila. Just recently the company was reorganized to put into operation two divisions catering to different specialties to address entry of new products.
The company has also diversified into having its own retail outlets/drugstores. Last December Alphamed opened its first drugstore – DICKSONs drugstore, whose main aim is to provide quality, affordable and accessible medicines to the people of North Central Luzon or region 3 of the Philippines. Plans of expansion are now being discussed and should happen within 2013.
In August of 2008, Alphamed and its alliance (Health Source Alliance) embarked on a project with USAID/PRISM – “Expanding the Family Planning Pharmaceutical market”. This is a milestone for both USAID and ALPHAMED as this is the first GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT ALLIANCE (GDA) in the Philippines in the healthcare sector. The GDA agreement between USAID and ALPHAMED aimed to establish a viable private sector market for the new FP commodities that will target a new and different segment of the market. At the end of the project, the efforts led to the following hard earned results:
- BFAD registration of NORIFAM and FAMILA 28
- Remarkable sales of the two products
- Provision of necessary training/updates to providers
- Wide reaching information dissemination
- Increased access to FP commodities
It also resulted to models comprised of “traditional” pharmaceutical industry mechanisms mixed with new ideas, techniques and marketing strategies.
The company has successfully negotiated for new, innovative products among which are: DIAZINK Zinc 20mg dispersible tablet. And Alphamed is currently negotiating for new improved contraceptive formulations, these products will soon be part of ALPHAMEDs MCH formulary.
September 2009 marks the beginning of ALPHAMED’s expansion into the Visayas, Mindanao areas. This carefully planned move coincides with the introduction of new products that needs focus and field promotions expertise which the company believes should be from within the organization. The move also ensures that all APC products, particularly the FP/MCH class be given more focus and attention to insure the success in the two regions.
